My dogwood is barely leafing out

I believe it's dying. I planted it in my front yard 15 years ago, so it should be well established. It was 12 years old when I got it. It sees full sun. I think one problem is the guy I got it from trained it so it would have clear bark up seven feet! This seems rather severe and it had a small crown when I got it. The crown doubled in size over the 15 years, giving full bloom and leaves each year.

I heard from someone local that this may have been a bad winter for dogwoods, and that many dogwoods didn't survive the winter.

My other dogwood - trained more bushy and wild - is doing fine.

I can't say anything about why it's not leafing out, but I feel for you - I grew up with a dogwood and just loved it - now I have a narrow yard surrounded by lots of trees and don't see a place to put one in - maybe at our dream house!

Oh that's so sad! I hope it comes back for you!
We had a pink dogwood while growing up- unfortunately it succumbed to that dogwood disease years back.
