Anyone have any experience with "Knockout" Rose? It looks like a great alternative to camellia or rose-of-sharon that are just too big for my little garden ('Knockout' roses only get about 3-4 feet, according to what I read.) My book states that it is very disease-resistant and low-maintenance, but I just wanted to get some thoughts/opinions just in case. Thanks!

Well GD, you are right. Knock out's were designed as tough as nail landscape roses. Easy to grow, sturdy, and very disease resistent. They would be a great addition to your garden. Plant and enjoy.

I bought 3 last spring in 1 gal pots and they are ok. Nice roses, nothing spectacular, but they are doing quite well this year, so I'm waiting to see what kind of bloom I get. They are attractive, just not exactly my cuppa tea. They are still very young, so I'll wait and see.

I don't think they have fragrance and I gotta have fragrance.

they do, it's just a light fragrance. Not a heavy "rose" smell. they were built for durability.

Maureen on Carolina Garden (WBTV radio) talks about them all the time. She thinks they're great. I saw some at the feed and seed a few weeks ago. They were totally covered with blossoms. They looked striking.

My problem is, the roses that I absolutely LOVE are the hybrid teas, but I am not careful enough with them at this time in my life. If anyone can suggest some that are more hardy than others...I want a leonidas rose, marilyn monroe, barbra streisand (I've already lost two to black spot) and bride's dream. Someday. When I was at the garden center yesterday I resigned myself to getting a knockout this year...

I'm thinking of getting a knockout rose for my mom for mother's day. We used to have some other kind of rose out front behind our azalea but it had all kinds of problems with black spot and constantly needed maintenance. My mom loved it, but it was becoming too much work. The k-o roses I found at the nursery yesterday were beautiful, and they were nice and busy too..not tall and lanky like the last one we had.

I have considered getting them myself. I think they are gorgeous and like that they are pretty resistant to everything.

I really like this one especially.

That link didn't work but their website shows only one Knock-out, 'Radrazz'. There it looks burgundy but on another sight it looks magenta.
