This is a blog from "Hyacinth" She is having problems with perhaps Ants eating the blossoms on some of her plants. Maybe someone can help her a bit.

You, see, I have a garden inside and out side. inside i grow from seeds since ths is Canada and is freezing cold. The outside garden is from flowers bought at the store. Most of my outside plants are strong to the cold weather. Inside grow Daisy, Sunflower, Basil, and Bean. Out side, I grow Hyacinths, Iris, ( whom which are dieing from the cold), Muscari or Grape hyacinth,( smells like grapes), Jack frost, ( best growing plant), English poppy, ( one flower doesnt have the middle yellow part. Strange), Cosmos,( being devored by ants), Marigold, ( pretty good), Assylums, Primrose that is 5 kinds of colour, and two kinds of Daffodils that are also being eaten by ants. My favourite, is obviosly the hyacinth which I have 2 of. One is purple( my favourite) and the other is pink.

When i accidentally cut a sunflower stem off, and put it in water, the roots grew back so if you cut one by mistake, just put it in water.

I am also putting used coffee grounds in my garden to increase worm activity.

I'm not sure about that. I know that peony blossoms are covered in ants, but they are going after the nectar, not the petals.
Interesting about the sunflowers. I didn't know that. I'll give that a try when I have broken sunflowers. They do that all the time. That is, if the rabbits let them actually grow.

First time I ever heard of ants eating plants!!
Maybe she can take a picture of the little pests.
I would try putting an ant killer around the plants being eaten- or grits, they supposedly work well (not sure if she could them in Canada though...)
Once the ground warms up, she can also use a product called Amdro- it works wonders with my fire ant problem I bought it at Lowes, but I think yu can get pretty much anywhere...

As for the coffee grounds- they can really acidify the soil- even too much for acid loving plants! If you start your own "worm farm" (plastic bins work great) you can put them in there for our little wormy friends to eat

Hi this is my first day on the site and I think that ants could be eating my Wave Patunas or maybe slugs. I planted 6 plants and there is one left. just stems where the others used to be. someone told me that ants won't go over chalk. try that
something is certainly eating them. I mean really eating them up. have you ever had any problems with wood bugs. I am in Port Alberni on Vancouver Island in BC
