Is it invasive by means of root spread? Can it be propagated by cuttings? When you say admiring the blue flowers-Are you talking about cat MINT, and not cat NIP? My catnip has white flowers-and they're really not so pretty. |

My sister used to sell catnip by the road after being hung upside and left to dry I would sew dried catnip into little pillows and sell them as well. It grew wild all along the top of the vally next to the farm where we lived for a few years. Acording to Health Canada catnip used to be used as a herbal medicine for relieving digestive spasms, or to relieve fever by inducing sweating, as well as relieving diarrhoea and apparently relieves nervousness too. Another web site mentions that it is oil that is found in the plant called nepetalactone that contains (5,6,7,7a-Tetrahydro-4, 7-dimethylcyclopenta pyran-1-(4aH)-one), a relatively small organic compound (C10H14O2). Quote: im containers an i havent found it the slightest bit true they love there containers i advise aganst putting in ground cause they can overwhelm the containers if you dont watch them LOLOriginally posted by bussete1 If I wanted to keep neighborhood cats out of catnip, I'd plant it in a hanging pot.Since catnip is a mint, it sends out roots to make babies, you can root cuttings, and it sends out seeds. All mints are kind of like Pandora's Box. If you let them out of their "box" (planter), you have a mess on your hands that it will take years to clean up. ive catnip with ligt purple flowers--by aerogarden light-- and white flowers outside |

Cat nip is also used as a calming herb in teas. Look at the ingredients in calming or sleepy teas. All my herb books combine, chamomile, cat nip, and Valerian root for sleep teas. |
