Yet another silly question...

Hello! I just about completed my second flower bed today - YAY!! - but had a question about mulch. I bought cedar mulch but was hesitant to put much on because I planted a number of flower seeds and I don't want to smother them. However, I know that mulch is only really effective against weeds when it is thick... do I just throw caution on the wind and heap it on? Do the little seeds make their way through the mulch? haha Thanks! Morgan |

Don't think I would cover your seeds. Wait until the plants have grown into good sized plants.

Definitly not. What I usually do when I plant seeds is put down the mulch first, then pull back the mulch leaving about a 3 inch blank space. If you came to my gardens today, you'd see lots of circles in my pine straw because I've just done a bunch of seeding, but I put that pine straw down first. I don't want to pull a bunch of weeds without it. |
