I used to have the best book from Rodale Press back in the early 80's - I think it was fairly new then and the title may have been simply Organic Gardening. It had information about the French intensive method of planting, companion planting, interplanting and had zone information for different regions. It was just awesome and I'm sure I let someone borrow it who never returned it (will never happen again!). Does anyone recognize the book I'm referring to? Do I have the title right?

I know the book you are talking about and probably still have it, unfortunately most are still in storage as we are doing some remodeling. Can you contact Rodale and ask?

Yeah, I'll need to research it or find time to trek to the library - it's probably on the shelf there and I can order it through the ISBN# Great book! I think more people would appreciate the concept of the French intensive method - I get aggravated every time I see a row of plants

Hi the book I think your looking for is Rodales Illustrated Encyclopedia of Organic Gardening. I have mine from the 90's but amazon has it $16.50 and I think it was updated in 2005. I have used mine so much the cover is falling off.
It's a great book.

I have two editions of Rodale's Encyclopedia of Organic Gardening, and think thats what you're talking about. Both books are AMAZING and I have found every page to be filled to the margin with useful information. Many of the editions can be found on amazon, though I suggest getting one of the newer editions because they contain all the information from previous publications with new material added.

Use this site for finding and buying books...albiris.com You can purchase used or new. I just looked and there are quite a few Rodale books, used starting at $2.99 and new at $12.86 although there is shipping. I've found lots of "lost" books there and the shipping usually is minimal. I just used Rodale for the keyword and Organic Gardening for the subject. It's a great site for finding books!

Rodale has a book entitled Rodale's ultimate encyclopedia of organic gardening: ... edited by Fern Marshall Bradley. You could probably borrow a copy from your local library.
