Hi! I recently purchased a whiskey barrel container, which is pretty big (16 inches deep and 28 inches in circumference). I would like to plant a small tree in it. Has anyone had any luck growing a small tree in this size container? I was thinking of a dwarf cherry, plum, apple or viburnum. Do any of those sound feasible? I probably won't plant the tree until the winter, as it seems like that's what's recommended. I live in Northern New Jersey and all my planting is in containers because my condo is surrounded by concrete. Thanks! Jess |

Many years ago I had a Myers Lemon Tree planted in a whiskey barrell and it did just fine. It needs more water and fertilizer in a container-but I don't see why not! |

I think u may be okay as long as u water them enough as trees usually get their water from several feet under the ground after they are established. I can't say, however, how quickly they may become root-bound, but if it is your only choice, I would give it a shot. My whiskey barrels always do amazing, no matter what I put in them. |
