Hi everyone! I love lavender and have always grown it in my garden. However, I would like to grow some in pots on my patio. I live in SC and it gets very hot in the summer - many days are 90+. My patio is in a very sunny location. Any suggestions? How big would my pot need to be? I will be starting with a plant from my local nursery in a small container. Thanks so much for your help! Welcome. I'm from SC, too. It's really the humidity that gets the lavender. I haven't thought about trying it in a pot. Perhaps if you have a well draining soil that might work. You'd probably need a pretty good-sized pot, too. |

I'm in central Texas, and I've got both Provence and Goodwin Creek Grey lavender growing in 18" diameter pots. They are doing well in a potting mix with a good amount of sand for excellent drainage. My lavenders don't seem to mind the heat, but I'm not sure how much more humid summers are in SC. |

I'm in zone 5a - what about winter? Do they need to come inside? I tend to forget pots down in the cellar, so ... can they become a house plant? If so, when to start moving it back outside?? (ie can they take colder early days than most houseplants?) |

I had some Spanish Lavender outside last winter and it didn't make it. I'm in Zone 7, so I sort of expected that. It was still pretty until mid-February, though. |
