Hi everyone! I love lavender and have always grown it in my garden. However, I would like to grow some in pots on my patio. I live in SC and it gets very hot in the summer - many days are 90+. My patio is in a very sunny location. Any suggestions? How big would my pot need to be? I will be starting with a plant from my local nursery in a small container. Thanks so much for your help!

Welcome. I'm from SC, too. It's really the humidity that gets the lavender. I haven't thought about trying it in a pot. Perhaps if you have a well draining soil that might work. You'd probably need a pretty good-sized pot, too.

I'm in central Texas, and I've got both Provence and Goodwin Creek Grey lavender growing in 18" diameter pots. They are doing well in a potting mix with a good amount of sand for excellent drainage.

My lavenders don't seem to mind the heat, but I'm not sure how much more humid summers are in SC.

I'm in zone 5a - what about winter? Do they need to come inside? I tend to forget pots down in the cellar, so ... can they become a house plant? If so, when to start moving it back outside?? (ie can they take colder early days than most houseplants?)

I had some Spanish Lavender outside last winter and it didn't make it. I'm in Zone 7, so I sort of expected that. It was still pretty until mid-February, though.
