SusanLouise Joined: 1/03/2008 Location: Lincoln, Nebraska Posts: 226	Posted: Apr/06/2008 12:11 PM PST Hello All, I just need help with one issue...that with all the gardening books I have, they make no mention of how to arrange plants with space in a garden to be able to weed and harvest seeds (when the time comes)...only how far to space each plant from one another for growth. How does one plan for this? make 'walkways'? For example, I've germinated and sown 150 Salvias...Coral Nymph, Lady in Red, Subrotunda and Dreamsicle...if I planned on having rows of them...and space them the 1 ft apart for each...and once the reach full growth by mid-late summer...how in the world do I get the seeds from the 4th row without stepping on all the plants... Yes, I'm a newbie to this...my 1st time sowing and gardening other than picking up plants at a nursery. I never took on a major project like this before. My garden plan on graph paper looked great with my planning for spacing and all...but I left out this very important part... ...I'm just glad I realized it before I planted and not after! Heavy mulching works well also. Manardia comes in pink and red. They grow 3-4' high. The Hummers really love them, however, they can be quite invasive. You did not mention butterfly bushes. They come in many colors and they're perennial. Lots of luck and oh yeah, a weed is just an unwanted flower, at least according to my grandma....... Quote \| Reply \| Report

I always have butterflies on my Liatris, Coneflowers, Butterfly weed. The Hummers love my Honeysuckle vine, although I am not sure how to put it in that type of garden. Maybe grow it up a post and train it vertical, mine is on a fence and is trained horizontal. Good luck and would love to see pics as you go.... Quote \| Reply \| Report
