Just got in my order of 12 creeping red sedum. They look like dead vines but I did the scratch test and they are alive. How on earth do I go about planting them? Can they take full sun? I fear I need to get them in the ground fairly quickly to save them but don't have a clue where to start. Should I soak them in water first? Thanks!

From my experience with creeping-type sedums, you can just throw them on the ground, throw some dirt over them, leaving some tips out for the sun, and they're off and running. Usually you see little "hairs" on the stems. I assume they are like rudimentary roots. As long as they are near the earth, they seem to catch on and grow like crazy.
I am sure there are folks that could explain it better than I, but that's been my experience. Let us know how it works out.

Thanks! I'll try that. Seems almost too easy but as I don't have a clue, I'll certainly get them going.

I'd do the same. Keep them moist for about a week or two and then water occasionally. They prefer full sun.

Sounds like you may have gotten yourself some dragon-blood sedum. If so, they grow like crazy with very little attention. They also bloom in the fall with little red flowers. Just stick the ends in the dirt that have those little hair-like protrutions and they`ll take off for you.

I do have Dragon's Blood. Thanks for the advice ya'll! I planted them this weekend and am very excited as I hope they will slow down some of my erosion problems. Hope they don't wash away too......

Get some hair pins and use them as plant anchors. They work great.

Great idea MamaBear! I'll definately give that a try! With 3 daughters, we have plenty of hair pins!
