I finally have time tomorrow to get rid of the mean old stinging nettle from my planter. How do i get rid of it without getting stung by the mean bugger?! The last time i got stung I barely touched it. My fingure hurt most of the day. Hubby got stung on his leg he had long pants on but it still hurt him! Dont want it to happen again...HELP! Also does anyone know how deep the roots grow? PS. I'll post pictures of it tomorrow. It has grown real tall and wide. Me and my dang curiosity! I just had to let it grow! ![]() EDIT: oooooops, did I post in the wrong section of the forum again?

here i go talking to myself again! I just had a crazy thought...I read some people actually cook stinging nettle and eat it (Yikes! You can't cook it after it seeds so read up on the subject before you try this at home...lol). Supposedly cooking it gets rid of the poison. Anyway, to my crazy thought...how about if I pour boiling water on it until it dies back? Ya think it will work? HA! Ya know i'm gonna try it if no one else gives me some advice. lol

Is there anything else in the planter that you don't want to kill? If so, maybe you could paint the nettle leaves with an herbicide. I've had good luck with pouring vinegar on my weeds in the sidewalk cracks, so if you're wanting to experiment, as we know you do.....

Yeah, paint' em! Isn't that what I just said??!! Need a Q-tip???? ....love being curmudgeonly... When you need to kill just the weed and not the plants around it, you can dip a Q-tip (haha, not the one you used to clean out your clogged-up ears!) dipped in a weed-killer and then wipe it onto the leaf. I don't know if it works for all weeds but if weed-killer works on stinging nettles, it should work. |

Put on a long sleeved shirt and a pair of gloves and pull the sucker out of there. They get into my window boxes also
