I need a hedge that will grow in full, and preferrably stay green or at least colorful (not just sticks) all year. I need to be able to keep the height of them uniform at about 3 1/2 to 4ft tall. I know there are box hedges, but I was wondering if there was anything more interesting? I am looking to put a hedge against the front of my house as a kind of backdrop for my perennials and flowers. Any suggestions? Thanks!I'm in zone 8B Allison |

You might get some ideas from 8-page article on using various types of BOXWOODS and hydrangeas in current issue of Garden Ideas magazine (Spring 08). It shows various boxwood borders used to frame planting beds. They feature hyndrangeas in the beds but boxwood could be used to surround whatever you have. Boxwood is hardy and green all year round. Might be worth a look to get some ideas. |

There are also a couple of varieties of evergreen blueberry that would make fruitful hedges, and several varieies of sage ( standard culinary sage, golden varieagated, purple blushed, and tricolor). |

Try looking at pictures and descriptions of Euonymus japonicus. There are lots of different 'named' cultivars. |
