I have a pear tree that had its first crop last year--a huge crop--. This year there is not a single bloom on the tree, it is just leafing out with no blooms. What could be the problem? |

This year's pear crop was dependent on what occurred last growing season. Several fruit varieties (i.e., apples) have a tendency to fruit on a bi-annual basis. To prevent this, thin fruits each year. Allow the tree to put its effort in to not only maturing the present crop, but also store energy for next year's crop. Too much fruit will definitely affect the following year's crop. Fritz |

Thank you. I knew the crop could cycle some, but I haven't seen a total loss like this before. Last year we had a lot of rain, a perfect year, and the amount of thinning would have been huge. |

thanks for asking this and the reply. I"m buying a house where there's a pear tree and apple tree and the seller says that they both fruit every other year. I didn't know these were biannual crops. I was wondering if it was a fertilizer or sunlight issue, glad to know now. |
