I want to grow my new Pencil Tree in a pot. Anyone grown one of these in a pot before? I will have to make a call or two to find out what size to put it in. It is going to sit where I had to take out a 'planted in the wrong place' holly tree. It would make a nice statement in a pot. The tree is about three feet tall. Linda B |

I've had mine in a pot for years, I didn't know they were or could be planted in the ground. For some reason I always thought of it being a houseplant. I've learned something today! Mine is now about 5' tall an probably root bound. Its goes to the greenhouse or in the house b4 my greenhouse was built every winter. In the warm months I've always placed it in the shade outside, but now I know I can put it in full sun.

The pencil tree's can grow into 20ft. trees. My friends dad has one in his yard. You can grow them in anything. In fact you can cut a piece off and throw it on the ground and it will still grow. I have several of them and the 'Firestick' version which has red tips. My firestick is still just a baby though. If you clip a piece off you should let it dry out for a few days before you plant it to prevent rot. Hope I was any help. Feel free to ask more questions if you have them!
