I just started my veggie garden on the side of my house. Now that the sun is in full force I noticed that part of my veggie garden is shaded by my house. My garden is out in the sun but shaded areas are worrying me.
Is that still considered full sun or does that constitute a problem for growing okra, corn, red cabbage, brussel sprouts, watermelon, and more? Please help with some ideas and help.
Thanks
Tita

well over here weve grown onions(from "sets") successfully as fer right here every year my herb garden gets a "mottled" sun/shade mix (plenty of trees overhead an in general area just a city area tho) an they never complain (ok the stevia dosent like it at all it dies an the pineapple sahe will occasionally tell me it needs more light but then its happy once i move it)

id definately say try it an take note fer next year

Hi Tita,
When I read where you are from I couldn't help but get tickled, I'm hoping it's in the same area I am thinking, around Alvin?? That's my hometown if its the right Sugarland. Full sun is 6 to 8 hours a day. Just make sure they get that amount of sunlight and you will be fine. 6 hours is still good enough to grow regular vegatables. But I'm sure somewhere here can chime in and help you out better than me. All of my veggies are in complete sun from sun up to sundown. So I'm only guessing from my experience. Good luck.
Kris
Edited; I just reread your post, your corn needs a minimum of 6 FULL hours of sun each day. As far as the rest of them, I don't know for sure, like I said mine are all in complete sun all day.

What side of the house is the planned garden? Is it morning or afternoon shade that you are getting?
If it's afternoon, I would utilize the shadier part for your cabbage and/or other veggies that appreciate afternoon shade...like lettuce

the garden is on the north side of the house. i was sure at one time that the entire side of the house got full sun since the sun it directly over the house but the eave shades my garden and it is bothering me.

I am worried that all the mushrooms I am getting is now from the moisture not drying well after I water the plants. I am thinking about putting everythign in pots and growing them on that side in pots and if they all grow to full potential by harvet time then they should be fine there.

not sure. what do you think with it on the north?

thanks

yes it is around Alvin. That is the same Sugar Land. So when did you grow up here? I grew up in Lake Jackson. Just moved back to Texas from California.

the sahde is all day though. the house is shading the garden because it is on the north side of the house so the sun does not go directly over it since it is in the wrong spot. i am so sad about it. I have about a 11 feet by 50 foot veggie garden on the side of the house and thought it was going to be awesome. If I move it I have to make a smaller one and put it in the back which is full sun all day.

thanks for you thoughts
