Is there a forum to get advice on which online companies/nurseries are reputable and which are not? Also, which ones have the most reasonable prices and quality products?

I just recently made a purchase from a company online and was kinda worried after the fact about the quality of the product I would get.

Has anyone had any experience buying from House of Wesley?

Thanks!

I found a poll on the poll forum about seed companies. I was wondering more about ordering plants but I will keep in mind the suggestions about the seed companies.

I have never ordered from House of Wesley, but you can let us all know what you think about your order when you receive it! Welcome to GG!

We don't have a specific forum for it, but you could start a new thread in Other Flower and Plant Discussions. Title it so people will be able to come back to it for reference--sounds like it'd be a good ongoing thread.

Yes! I totally agree! I liked the poll, but some of my favorites were NOT on it...but I *do* tend to bend to the more exotic seeds...

Hi SpringChicken,

Go to this website:

http://davesgarden.com/products/gwd/

This is part of a huge gardening website and on this page, the members can rate their experience with companies...you can look at how well or badly the members rate something like 3,000 nurseries.

I checked the listing for House of Wesley...sorry to say, but they seem to have a poor reputatiion.

I like Pine Tree Garden seeds myself--the prices are a bit lower than average and the selection is pretty good (www.superseeds.com).
Baker Creek Seeds is another good one--in fact, they are on the Dave's Garden Top Thirty rated companies on the page I linked to (www.idigmygarden.com---they also have a gardening forum there as well).

For fruit trees I use Vernon Barnes and Sons, since it's only 100 miles from me and the plnats are therefore pretty well acclimated to my area. Prices are great too. (no website for this one.)

Thanks CountryKitty!

I will definately check that site out and I will get us a post of our own like it started here hopefully.

I did have an awry feeling after I placed that order with House of Wesley but will write it off as a learning experience if nothing else. Next time, I will search around a bit more before ordering. I was just so excited by what I saw I couldn't resist! (still haven't told the hubby yet either )

Yes! Dave's Garden Watchdog site is where I go to check out plant and seed suppliers. It has been extremely helpful to me over the years. I think it is the last word because you can read comments from people who have dealt with all these companies.

By the way, is it just me, or has anyone else noticed how much the price of plants has gone up in the last year or so? There is no WAY I am going to pay what they're asking for a small perennial or shrub these days! We have way too much ground to cover, and we need to be able to pay our mortgage and eat!

I checked out Greenwood Nursery (www.greenwoodnursery.com) on Dave's Garden Watchdog, and they seem to be very good. They offer bare root perennials at great prices. Even some of their gallon sized plants have good prices, and if you order more than $60, shipping is free. So if you can be patient enough to wait for a bare root plant to mature, this is a good place to shop.
