Homemade Butter

Hi all! My sister in law gives me fresh raw milk. I have made several attempts at making butter. Nothing has turned out quite right. Anyone have any tips? I mean, I know the basics, but I do not have the time to roll it in a mason jar, and the blender method heats the cream up too much to actually make butter. Can anyone help me with a simple idea?

Make sure you have just the cream off the top, MY kids and I would put it in a jar and take turns rolling and shaking it, it takes a while but it will go just give it time. and shake, shake, shake. |

LOL That would be awesome!! Wouldn't that be something to see? A little mexican bean jumping around in a mason jar? I bet my grandson would get a kick out of it!! Thanks for all the tips. So far, we have done the mason jar thing, and I have used the mixer (kitchen aid type) and a blender. The blender heats up too much, the mixer makes a huge mess and the mason jar takes too much time.LOL I'll keep looking. Somewhere I found a web site that said to use a food processer. I don't have oneof those YET....but I'm hoping for one for the next canning season. Might help out a lot. |

im assuming the mixer is more kitchen aide like then it is a hand based unit(hope ya know what i mean) maby if you put plastic wrap around the mixer in a fashion that created like a cover but still enough room fer the mixing component to move around?? that should prevent most of the mess as should lowering the speed (the kitchen aide ones have like 7 speeds) note tho the plastic wrap must be the clingy stuff --if something works make needed adjustments to it so its working great |

Be careful in handling it since it's unpasteurized. The idea of the plastic wrap can be done, but use something sturdier like a margarine lid with a big area cut from the middle for the beater to move freely in. You might have to foil the outer edge to get it to fit properly, but it would be more stable. Would one of those shakers with the insert work to get it started instead of using a mixer? You spelling's great compared to a kid from Quebec I talk to that only speaks broken English. Don't worry about it. You're cool. |
