I'm in a local garden club, and am just wondering how many of you are also in garden clubs? What are some of the program topics your club has had (or has planned for this year) at your meetings? For our March meeting we'll have a local bird expert speak to us about attracting birds to our back yard. In the past, we've had programs on pruning, native plants, bonsai, roses, orchids, bulbs, herbs, and organic gardening. Some of the programs have been "make-it/take-it"-- such as, fall centerpieces, hypertufa planters. In the summer, we try to tour some local gardens and/or nurseries, which the members enjoy very much. We've also taken a few bus trips. Does your club have plant sales? We've had public sales and also a couple of silent plant auctions (just for club members.) We definitely make more money with the public sales. We're having another one this year, but we are going to make it a combination plant/bake sale. If your club has a plant sale, do you have any helpful tips? Are there other fundraisers your club holds? Does your garden club have a web site? The club I'm in is a fairly small club (and low-budget), so we do not currently have a web site. If your club does have a web site, and you'd like to share the web address, I'd be interested in viewing the site. Think spring!! |

This is a great topic!!! I am on the mailing list for the local Garden Club but have not made it to a meeting. At their last meeting they learned how to make labyrinths. |
