Hello,

I just planted a Kings Ransom bare root tea rose and am wondering how often and how much it should be watered. Please help. This is my first rose and I have two others coming from Jackson & Perkins in a week or so and I want to give them a good start. Thank you so much!

We are getting rain about twice a week on the east coast and that's a plenty for newly planted items. Hopefully you can depend on rainfall.

For a new rose you want to water daily and until new growth is evident. Then water weekly 1-2 inches per week, unless you live in a very dry area. You want to water deeply and less frequently to promot a strong, deep root system. Watering lightly every day will give you a weak root close to the soil.

Also, DO NOT WATER TO LATE IN THE DAY. This will promote diseases like black spot, and other fungi that will weaken the plant. The exception is is you water the ground ONLY, becareful not to splash the leaves if you are watering in the late afternoon.

Hope this helps
