The leaves of this herb are supposed to be 1000 times sweeter than sugar. Has anyone here tasted it? It's also supposed to have a secondary taste of camphor. |

Are you talking about Stevia? My father in law has used that before, it was pretty effective at sweetening. I think he ordered some that was dried and powdered over the internet. |

I know this is an older post but just in case you havent found out anything.... I am growing stevia in my garden. I planted 12 plants and was afraid they werent going to survive because my 7 yr old twins kept picking the leaves off and eating them. They call them sugar plants. I tried using some fresh leaves in my coffee and that was truly nasty. I'm going to dry some in the next few days and try that in my coffee. Will be nice if i can grow my own Splenda!! lol Will let ya know how it tastes after it is dried. |

Let us know how that tastes in coffee. Love that line! Grow your own Splenda! The culinary teacher at our voc. school offered me some seeds for the stevia, but he never came through with them. I've never grown any, but I'd like to try it sometime. Maybe I'll remind him and get some when school starts back. |

I read somewhere that plants grown from cuttings are much sweeter than those grown from seed. I bought mine at a feed store so lord only knows how they were grown but they sure are sweet. If the dried leaves work for me, I will be taking some cuttings this fall for next year. |

Well, I dried some of my stevia and I'm sorry to say that I am greatly disappointed. It still has a nasty taste to it. Yes, it is sweet but, there is a chemical taste in the background. Maybe I am doing something wrong, maybe its to early to be drying it. I am gonna try it again and again until we get our first freeze. |

I thought the info under "How to start your own Stevia patch." was interesting. www.stevia.net/growingstevia.htm |
