I wasn't sure where to put this thread so I put it here.

We have wild strawberries in the backyard and when we moved in back in July, we were like "awwww, how cute"....not so cute anymore now that it's invading the whole back yard.

What can I get to get rid of this crap and no kill the grass?

Strawberries create runners and are very prolific especially the wild ones. anything that will kill them will probably kill your yard. So I'd say if it really annoys you black tarp the whole area and when it's all dead reseed the grass.

Or you could do what we do. mow it just like the grass and occassionally bend down to pick and eat a tiny berry as you mow. lol

sorry not what you want to hear.

I don't know if wild strawberries are like the June bearing I have growing, but the roots are pretty shallow, you could spend the week pulling it up.

I did find out that they have been used for centuries for several medicinal purposes.

This probably didn't help much either, but I did try.

I inherited wild strawberries with our house. I just pull the ones that get into the gardens. My son loves eating the strawberries, he says they taste better than the big ones

I believe the only way to get rid of them for good would also involve killing the lawn too... I say just learn to live with them

i've decided to not worry about it until I get my yard nice and landscaped which will be years..lol Until then, i'll pull out the ones that grow where they are not supposed to.
I don't let anyone eat them because you never know where the dog has peed..lol

We are going to fence off part of the yard so that the dog will have his area and we'll have our own. Maybe after that. We did buy a blue berry bush today though

I just pull them up. That keeps them in control. It never really rids them all, but at least they aren't taking over.
