I like plants..my cats do too. Right now I have 2 plants that are on the top of my computer desk because if I put them anywhere else, one of my cats will eat the leaves. It drives me crazy. How am I supposed to get them light? I don't want to have to bring them outside during the day and back in at night..that defeats the purpose of house plants. Does anyone have ideas about this? Should I just hang some baskets from my ceiling? |

Don't know if this would be of any help to you but my mother had many potted plants & her cat would munch on one or two of them. The same ones all the time. Did not touch the others. So she got an old rectangular pot & planted some lawn grass in it. Niki loved it & would munch on it when he had the need to eat greenery (which cats do to improve their digestion) & left the plants alone. Just a suggestion. |

Yeah i'm afraid that it wouldn't help the problem but it's worth a shot. |

I just read that heavily perfumed bars of soap placed in and around potted plants (not IN the pots but around the base of the pots) will keep cats from coming aournd. They don't like the perfume. Now, if you don't mind the scent you should be fine. |

Squirtgun? (Seriously, I just use a loud, harsh tone of voice to say "CAT!" and they know they've done wrong. Whatever you do, don't spank a cat on the behind--they grab each others behinds in play and the cat will think you were just playing rough to exert dominance and never realize they were being disciplined. To physically discipline a cat tap its forehead with your fingertips--an angry cat will slap the other cats forehead so they'll know you're ticked off and learn better. Mine do get to go outsie adn have wild plants to chew on, so if yours are indoors fulltime they might do quite well with a pot of grass of their own.) |

I do that and it works. They know they are not allowed on the counter tops, the table but they still do it when I am asleep or not here. I went to water the small orchid and it was all chewed up I'm going to try to do something so they can't get there.I don't tap them on the head or spank their butts. They all know their names and they all know what "get down" means but they are sneaky and like I said, when I'm not around, they do what they want anyways. |

I have a question... I'm wanting to get some house plants, like orchids and some hanging plants, some that will help provide air, just to make my home feel more comforting. I recently added a lipstick plant to my home. The problem is I have two cats that terrorize anything that dangles. if they can manage to climb to it they will. I have sprayed them with a spray bottle and yell their names or cat when they are in trouble, but when they think I'm not paying attention they will get into anything. I would really like a majestic palm, but I don't know which plants are toxic to my cats, and what kinds would be best for me to add to my home. So I'm just wanting some advice and even some ways of keeping the cats away from my plants |

Try to hang those plants that your cats cannot reach.
