I'm planting flower gardens around the patio, what flowers and shrubs would be good for surounding a patio? |

Gosh ~ the possibilities are endless! I used to be in Wisconsin z5a and I had sundrops all around our deck and gazebo. I liked them so much, I dug them up and took them along when we moved here to KY! I guess it all depends on what you want ~ height, color, perennial, annual, low-maintenance, evergreen, etc. It looks like you have some shade (your veggie garden pics are great!). How about some hostas? You may want an evergreen shrub or two. I like the golden arborvitae ~ the sunny yellow color is always a pick-me-up. Maybe some grasses for height? You can always fill in with annuals, too. If you're like me (cheap, that is I would scout around for good sales on plants that catch my eye. Or "shop" in a gardening friend's yard to see what they have to share. We will anxiously await pictures of your new project! This will be an entirely fun project, and you probably have some time to plan as your weather is not exactly springlike yet. Welcome to GG, BTW ~ from a gardener with many WI connections!! |

Your veggie garden is wonderful! You might consider interplanting some spring bulbs that are hardy to your area in between the other plants you choose. It would be nice to have some early flowering plants to cheer you in the spring. |
