Hello from Alabama! I'm starting a new veggie garden and would love some advice. I have a great site...full sun from the east. Trying to decide what to plant & where. I've gardened before....helped with one last year but didn't have any input in placement. We had such a bad drought that it was successful for the type of weather. I have a well that I need to get running to water with. I've started a compost pile and having fun with that! Any help is appreciated. Thanks for all the comments so far. |

Hey, pinkie, welcome to GG, I think you find a lot of veggie farmers on this site. You need to post your question down in the vegetable forum also. Again Welcome. John |

We had a dry summer here also, but not as bad as in Alabama. One thing good, it probably wont repeat that drought again this year. One suggestion, bust a couple bales of hay or straw on your garden spot and then rototill it in. It helps keep the soil aerated. In the fall, plant winter wheat or rye and plow that under next spring. For veggies, you need to give back to the soil for what you harvest. You have a great day and happy gardening. Bill Mitchell |

Getting the soil ready before planting is important. Some of my favorite things to grow are tomatoes, peppers.. mostly sweet ones, all colors, green beans and we always plant a few onions too.. used to do lots of gardening, but now down to just a few favorites.. Welcome to GG!! |
