Hubby's yard project is 99% done now. All looks beautiful to us but now we are stuck looking at the shop's side wall from the upper level of our yard.

I've thought about covering it with white lattice & building a boxed planter at the bottom of it. Then maybe plant bamboo or a climber in the planter. Maybe, add a 2 seater small yard table? Or put a whole bunch of pots in front of it?

I'm not too crazy about the pot thing 'cause people will bang into them when they walk by the barbeque section. Also we bought bar stools to put around the barbeque...Soooo it will be too crowded with stools and pots in the area.

Any suggestions to make it look pretty/nice? Suggestion for shop color change would be helpful also. Thank you.

We built a cedar planter, attached a trellis and planted an akebia vine (our deck gets a lot of shade)--it's worked out well.

I found a photo. You can see how the house left a big white expanse of space before we put the trellis in. We couldn't attach it to the house because we have siding, so we attached it to the planter.

ooooo sweetle so pretty. If I do what you did I can also add the table & 2 chairs at the corner right side. : )

You know what else I thought of yesterday... heehee recycling here. You know the letter holders people screw on walls in entrance or office or whatever? I can also screw in a bunch on the shop and plant flowers in those. Only problem with that the roof will show. Which doesn't really matter 'cause the roof will show no matter what I do.

Thanks sweetle. Again, real pretty.

PS. I'll post a pic of the letter holder I'm talking about.

See something like this? I can get a bunch screw em on the shop wall & plant in 'em. It would take up less space and I can add the table where I want it too. Just a thought what you all think?

EDIT: I just looked at my picture again. I forgot about my grapes! That will cover the roof. I mean It needs to be pruned back winter time but who cares...no one goes out there around that time anyway. UGH help help? Yes or no? lol...when I get in this kind of mood I'll be editing all day. I get a million thoughts in my head! thats why i need help.

This was to be my next project sweetle! Your trellis design will look perfect here once we are done with the area. Heck if I put the trellis/climber I wont have to paint anything!

A shade climber would look perfect & it won't get out of control 'cause it will be in a planter. Cool! Now i can ask what plant would you all recommend? heehee, million questions. Oh come on this is GG you can all handle my questions!

PS. I stopped planting anything around the area 'cause of the crazy passion flower & the butterfly (caterpillars) it attracted! eeek I saw some discusting stuff happen to the poor butterflies.

I wonder if you'll have enough room for soil. Remember, anything planted there is going to dry out quickly! I put a pansy on my front door in a small basket and had to water it every day. There just wasn't enough soil...maybe two big handfuls.

Good point sweetle maybe I can use one with one slot & bigger (or make something similar?). &

I can maybe plant succulents (they grow pretty slow) they don't need too much space. atleast not the ones I have. succulents like my camfire might work? This little fella needs a bigger home. Plus it hangs. ???????

& the color might go well with the miami peach color on the BBQ & floor?

OK guys please be honest ... let me know if it would look funny. As I said before I think of so many different things I end up not doing anything 'cause i get frustrated & give up. Okay, i wont post anything new unless someone wants a reply from me. Hope I have enough info. posted to get the ideas from you all. Thanks again.

I have an idea that might just be crazy enough to work. How far down is the drop from the roof to the ground below? 10 ft. or so? Maybe you could put big planter boxes down there, plant HUGE vines -- 20 ft or so, string a strong wire or 2 from edge to edge along the roof, and grow the vines up and along the roof from down below. If they were long enough, they wouldn't have to just go straight across, but could drape down too... kiwi vines... grapevines.. those take years to develop, but I love the idea of growing your own fruit, so that might be what I would pick. Or, if you pick any slow growing vine, you could maybe start some fast ones first to fill the space while the slower ones are growing. Just an idea... take it or leave it... or chop it up and throw it in the compost pile.
