Just came back from Florida (ah, yes, a snowbird!) and couldn't help but notice all the dead trees with this gray stuff hanging off of them. I've seen spanish moss in New Orleans and this looked different. I'm figuring there is a pest in the gray stuff that kills the trees, but what is it? Lots and lots of dead trees, sad isn't it? |

Yes, it is. I read something about the Pine Bark Beetle killing trees in Florida, but it doesn't sound too much like that. We don't have many Florida members on GG, but maybe someone will know something. |

Storms? Drought? Hurricane? Imports of pest & diseases? Take your pick. Check out 2007 and previous years Press Releases (Florida Department of Agriculture and consumer Services).http://www.doacs.state.fl.us/press/2007/ |

Thanks for the link. I'll check into it to see if it sheds any light. I wanted to stop and run over to get a closer look, but my hubby wouldn't slow down! Miles and miles of dead trees along the highway. In the meantime, if anyone knows what it is, please let me know! |
