I dont guess I ever did an intro here that I can find. Im fairly new to gardening, which brings my grandmother great pleasure since I used to swear I wanted a yard covered in asphalt! She cant believe I grow my own tomatoes and peppers along with flowers now. I have also started growing weeds and flowers that are good for my tortoises so they have healthy stuff to eat. My other half, who is DanS on this board, mostly grows the peppers but I am getting more and more into the ornamental and sweet frying peppers myself as well. I love heirloom tomatoes and enjoy growing many different varieties just to see what they taste like as well as see how well they grow for me. We moved into a new house in Sept of 07 and I had 27 tomato plants in the ground, everyone told me not to bother, but I just couldnt leave them after raising most of them from seeds. I brought 17 plants with me and pulled out the cherry plants and left them in the compost at the old house. My Yellow Pears did really well and recovered nicely and started producing again. A few others looked good and produced a few tomatoes and some just looked good but didnt produce. I just had to try though. We also brought along about 25 pepper plants that did fairly well after the move. Anyways Im a mother of two boys, 12 and 18. We keep and breed snakes over 200 snakes and I have a collection of tortoises and Box Turtles that keep me fairly busy. Im not so thrilled with this record snowfall winter here in WI for my first northern Winter. lol Ive had enough snow, bring on the sunshine and gardening! Im planning some outdoor rock gardens that will also be the summer housing for my tortoises and turtles this coming season. I cant wait to get started! I was raised in Arkansas, and have lived in Arizona, Texas, Oklahoma, Maryland and South Carolina. I guess you could say I was born with sand in my shoes. ![]() Ciao! Anja |

Welcome welcome and oh my .. from the south to Wisconsin! I think your winters are even colder than ours here in the suburbs of Chicago! Actual garden time won't happen until some time in May, BUT we can dream about our gardens every day! I grew many peppers and Brandywine & Amish Paste this past year - have Hillybilly just started which is another heirloom. Nice to meet you! Debbie in IL |

Hello and welcome, Anja! I am born and raised in Michigan, with a brief move to upstate NY. Now home again. I have only known snow and cold, it seems. You will like it here. Everyone is so nice and helpful. These forums are a treasure trove of information. Do dig right in! Is your avatar a Black Pearl Pepper? I am growing my first one now, and it looks a lot like it. Except the leaves are a mottled black/green....I hope they turn dark soon. |

Welcome to GG from southcentral WI, Anja! Great to see another cheddarhead among us, hope the frigid tundra hasn't put you completely off of the Upper Midwest. I was born and raised in Madison, WI, lived in Ft. Lauderdale, FL for 7 years back in the 90s (gosh, that sounds so long ago, now...), then moved back to within 20 miles of where I was born. You can't get me outta here permanently, I guess! Thanks for joining us, feel free to "dig around" a bit...
