FAQ about using the Forums & Blogs Forums and Threads: Sealed envelope: This means that particular thread has not changed since your last visit. Open envelope: This means there have been new posts to the thread since you last visited GG. Sticky: This is what moderators use to attach a thread to the top of a category list. The threads within a category are generally arranged by the latest time and date of a post. A sticky allows us to keep older threads at the top permanently or until we don't think they are needed there any longer. Locked: Means that no more posts are allowed in the thread. This is often used to make an announcement by the moderators or technical staff or where additional posts will have no more significant input into the topic being discussed. Subscribing to a thread: This does not cost, it is free! You will see a green button that says ‘Subscribe’. Any thread you want to keep track of, and it is highly recommended for any thread you start, will be found at the bottom of the forums, at all times! You will also receive a new private message letting you know when there are new posts to the threads you are subscribed to. To unsubscribe, go to the thread and click the 'Unsubscribe' button. Your Profile: Profile Settings: When you click on that tab, you will be able to enter the information that will show on your profile for others to view. Creating an Avatar: Go to your profile and click ‘Settings’ then ‘My Avatar’. You can choose from one of GG’s or you can load a picture to your photo album. Once it is in your photo album; choose ‘Create Photo’ and you will be able to use the picture you loaded! Private Messages: Type in the user name or go to the profile of the person you want to message and click ‘Send Message’. If you get spam or harassed in any way, you can click ‘Report Message’ and a Moderator will help you out. Photo Album: You do not have a limit to how many pictures you may load to any album, or how many albums you can create! Blogs: A blog is basically a journal where you can keep people updated on you and your gardening, or use as a diary to help you keep track of your gardening! Blog entries: Make sure to copy your entry prior to publishing it as you may lose it if you time out! Photos on blogs: The photos must be remotely hosted at this time, so you will want to load your photos to a service such as Flickr.com or Photobucket.com. Once you have them loaded there and want to put the photo in the post, click on the icon that shows a little mountain with the sun and it will prompt you for the address of the photo. This will be a ‘Direct Link’ that you need to use. Keeping track of blogs you like: Go to the blog and click ‘Add to Favorites’. You will always be able to find the blog when you go to your blog. They will be listed on the left hand side under ‘Favorite Blogs’. Subscribe Via RSS (Really Simple Syndication): This is for frequently updated blogs, or just to keep track of ones you like. There are many services that provide links to them as they are updated. Some common RSS Readers are Thunderbird Mail and Bloglines. When you click on ‘Subscribe Via RSS’ it will automatically default to your reader of choice and you can add it. Blog Settings: Go to ‘Settings’ in your profile and click ‘Blog Settings’. You can adjust how your blog is set up there. Personal information: It is highly advisable that you try not to post personal information in the forums or blogs such as email or phone numbers. If you have mistakenly done so for your user name, for example, we cannot change that so you will want to re-register. If you have trouble with this, please go to the ‘Contact Garden Guides’ link at the bottom of the page and we will be happy to help you by removing the account so you may register again. Changing email: We can do this, just contact us at the link at the bottom of the page and we will change it for you. You may post in this forum to give extra points and we will add them to the list, but don't be surprised if your post disappears after it gets added! That was part of the problem with the forum like it was, so many posts were the same but got lost so we will make it easier on all of us! I spent several hours going through the old forum and compiling these from the general knowledge of YOU the Gardeners who use the forums and I want to thank you all for such great ideas! |

New Information about linking photo's in your blogs, courtesy of bsmitch! Thanks Bill, hope YOU have a great day gardening! "I talked about putting images on your blog in my last post. There is another way to do this and it is probably easier. Upload images to Garden Guides into your Photos album, then right click on the image and click on properties. A window will open with the http:// so on. Right click on that and click copy. Then when you are writing in the blog entry window, click the little icon with a mountain and sun. That will open a window with a place to paste your image link. That's all there is to it. Test it out and if it doesn't work, delete it and try again until you get it to work for you." |

Following Links: To follow a link posted in the forums, you need to copy and paste it into your browser. Sometimes there is a space that needs to be removed from the link, and sometimes they are tricky to see. |
