Greetings from California - Northern CA that is. We're 120 North of Sacramento up I-5. I've been gardening forever and love it more everyday. I'm not a fussy gardener. I try and stay with the "local" plants.....we have 5 acres, about 275 olive trees (Sevillano and Manzanillo varieties), some Eucalyptus trees for wood and the other 2 acres is lawns, 2 houses, some out buildings and a 60 x 90 foot flower garden. oh, we also have a large veggie garden. I started out growing roses, it was going to be a 5 yr project. It's now going on 10 years since we started and it has a little more than roses. The roses are much more labor intensive and I had a bout with lung cancer 3 years ago which took a lot out of me. (can't work like I used too.) But have been 3 years clear and getting better everyday between the garden, lawns, woodcutting and hauling and kayaking (that's my second love) We're in our 60's & 70's and kayaking after my cancer has been my saving grace! It's so peaceful and beautiful here in No. CA. with all the lakes and rivers. We are retired and just pick up and go when we want to. It's very warm in the summer so we kayak early, come home rest, then in the evening we garden or mow lawns. Sometimes we reverse that Anyway, I'm glad I found this site, everyone seems quite friendly and from all over the world. Hope to be talking to a lot of you soon. I posted on the forum about a plant I can't identify, it's got all of us here stumped. We've never seen it (I'm a native Californian) - so is my mother who is 84 and lives next door to us. Showed it to a couple of nurseries and they are in the dark also. Hope someone can id it for us. I love it. It's easily grown and beautiful yellow flowers all summer and fall! I'll be posting more pics soon!

Welcome to GG califgardenlady, I have a brother in the San Diego area and he has roses as well. I think he got the love of gardening just as I did, from our dad and his dad.

Thanks for the welcome from everyone. Yeah, think I'll stick around, looks like a good place to be planted. Got up this am at 5:30 and went to Curves for my workout and brought a huge basket full of Rosemary bunches to all the ladies there also some long stems to use as BBQ skewers (yummy). Here it is 2:15pm and they just called and said the bunches are all gone! yikes! I didn't realize so many people used rosemary. I use it any time I cook or grill my chicken and pork. I grill 12 months out of the year...my oven hardly goes on, except to bake apple pies! Yeppers, I do keep busy here, never a dull moment. Also went to Home Depot this morning and bought 3 new Azaelas and 3 new Cone Rosemary bushes. The fog finally lifted about an hour ago so guess I must get out there and plant them! The ground is just perfect now after all our rains. Also have to transplant a small Crepe Myrtle Tree I've wanted moved for the last 2 years. ok, gotta keep moving or I start aching....will be talking to you all soon, and thanks again for the welcome.

Hello Califgardenlady,

Welcome to our friendly garden site where you can chat with all different types of gardeners & pass some good info around. I love it here and have made some terrific friends & I'm sure that you will enjoy GG as much as we do.

I have three kayaks that my two daughters use quite often in the summer when they visit. My hubby is not able to get in/out of one but the rest of us do find it fun & is a good form of exercise. We also enjoy our SeaDo, the inboard/outboard Ebb Tide, & pontoon for cruising. I've lived on the lake most all of my life and love the water & fishing.

From the shores of Lake Greenwood, SC.
Keep those hands dirty,

Hi and welcome, califgardenlady!

What a large gardening area you have! I cant imagine being able to keep up with so much yard. Glad to hear your health is better. The kayaking really is therapeutic. My husband and I have them, and last summer we paddled all over lakes and river in upstate NY. You see nature at its best from the water. Have fun looking around and jump right in!
