Witt- I just love the names of your gardens I helped my mom garden since I was little. While in college I had houseplants, and container plants once I had an apartment. Still did the container plant thing after moving to VA in our apartment. I really started going with flower and veggie beds when we bought the house 7 years ago. It came with nothing but "grass", a few mature trees and some honeysuckle. I've been slowly adding beds ever since, with my dream to have the lawn be the accent to the beds, and not the other way around. That will have to wait until after the children grow up

I had my first vegetable garden as a small child in New Jersey. I begged my mother to let me do it. I remember digging the area, using a hoe to make my little rows and planting the seeds completely on my own. My parents were great about letting me have ownership of my garden. I grew carrots, radishes, and lettuce. I have loved it ever since. I just started growing veggie's again in the last couple of years. Much more frustrating here in FL than it was in NJ. Karen |

I retired three years ago and started gardening that spring. My first garden was in a big container filled with peppers and tomatoes.Since then I have been a container gardener exclusively. This year I put my fears aside and planted an inground garden.PTL so far things are growing well. I guess I said all of that to say better late than never! |

I've never had a vegetable garden. When I was a child I used to weed and care for my mother's roses and her single hydrangea bush. She hated the work but loved the roses. That's when I started to dabble with gardening (if you want to call it that.) Most of my life I've rented places so gardening was a "No No". This is the first house I've owned with a blank slate. I've been dabbling a little in the backyard, but haven't touched the front yet, mostly keeping the previous owners plantings at bay until I can figure out what to do with it. Our neighbors have planted small, raised bed, vegetable gardens this year and I'm clearing a part of the side yard so we can have one next year. I've never had a vegetable garden before. Should be interesting. |

I started flower gardening at age 34. That was 2 years ago and am loving it more and more as the years go by. |

Like other posters, I just started gardening within the last two years. It was difficult at first because I chose the pretty plants without a thought as to how to care for them. then I did some research and started on herbs. Only last summer did I try tomatoes in my patio garden. finally, success! |
