Have any of you ever started a fig tree from the sprouts that come up off the roots? Or have you started a fig tree from a cutting? Any experience shared is much appreciated. |

I have rooted cuts from fig trees. I did them last April 07, and they are up about 2 feet now, and ready to transplant in the spring. Was very easy. I just peeled back the bark to the cambeium, the light green skin under the bark, and used rooting powder on it. Potted it up in store bought potting soil. Away it went, did great! Just sprayed them with water about twice a week for several weeks. My cuttings were about 8" long. I will now move them to a protected area this winter, (south side of house against a brick wall for warmth) I live in SC so we dont really have bad winters, maybe 20 degreess sometimes. but I will just throw a blanket over them on the very cold nights.....Give it a try, you never know. Beside April - I also would do some in October or when they are starting to go dormant......Good luck...... |
