I use the bedding from my pet rats in the compost pile. I have also heard that bird poo is really good too. |

I would not use my cats' excrement in my compost (I wish I could I have lots of it). I found the following about cat excrement: Not for food gardens, due to the possiblity of toxoplasmosis contamination of the veggies. (And no, compost heaps don't get hot enough to kill toxo eggs.) Probably OK for flowers although I'm not sure what its nitrogen or potassium content is compared to cow poop. Also, it'll attract every stray cat in the neighborhood. |

No poo from any meat eating animal should be used in compost. Any poo from grass eating/grain eating animals is great as long as it is dry and/or well composted. |

I live in an apartment and have two cats that NEVER go outside, and had one of them get worms. I know this is off the subject of bunny poop, but thought it should be known that it can happen. Maybe it was on my shoe? They said she could have eaten a flee? Where would a flee come from if they don't go out? Oh well. About the bunny poop, My boyfriend's family used to use it all the time in their garden when he was young and had a bunny. Last year his garden was kind of blah, so he bought a rabbit at the county fair. We love Max, he is an awsome rabbit, and you should see the garden. He doesn't compost it. He stores it in double garbage bags in the garage and puts it on the soil and tills it in. I had some daisies that a friend gave me from her yard, they were lookin pretty rough. He put some bunny poop around them and they perked right up! |

Nettie - FYI, indoor cats eat bugs that come in from outside and can get roundworms that way. And fleas can come in with you, believe it or not. |

Cat and dog food is made of Meat and corn mostly. The meat is chicken , turkey, beef, and depending on the brand and location it was made in it may also contain animals who were euthnized(sp)with chemicals! The meat contains a high fat content due to the parts of the animals they use. Its not good for your garden even if it was used straight on the garden with out ever going through your pooch. After going through your pooch its worse because now you add the possiability of parisites and what you get is bad news for your garden. Herbavore(sp) poo is good. Its plant matter not meats, fats and oil. Not to mention most dog food contains preservitives and dyes. Long story short just like at home fiber is goodand and cat and dog poo is not. |

Dimona: Should we not use chicken manure in our veggie gardens? I thought properly aged chicken manure was safe to use... |
