I have many houseplants that I've kept alive for years. For some reason I cannot do the same with Jade plants. I have 2 and both of them have leaves that are shriveling up and falling off. They are in different rooms, both have light, water as i do my other plants...don't get it. HELP |

Perhaps too much water? I have several types of jade now, but have killed more than one with kindness. Lots of light, and very little water. I read somewhere not to long ago that "If you think they are thirsty, wait a week." Seems to be working for me now. |

At this time of year you should only need to water every once in a while. A good tell-tale sign is if healthy leaves have a give when you give them a squeeze...it's time to water. In the summer I keep it outdoors and then it WILL require more watering. The pot should drain well (cactus mix) and not be much bigger than the base of the plant...shallow is better; an azalea pot if perfect. You can actually keep one growing in the same size pot until the trunk touches the sides! If they leaves are shriveling up at the bottom and it's only a few here and there then that is pretty normal. Start new plants with sections of the plant or individual leaves; allow cut ends to callous a few days before attempting to root. You can use horticultural grade sand or moistened perlite
