I sent these photos to Ortho Chemical Co. and they said they didn't know what kind of grass this is. It has just appeared this fall. You can see some of the blue grass attached to it where I pulled these sections out of the lawn. Sure is ugly and none of the weed poisons I have used have worked and my back is giving out pulling this stuff out by hand. Anyone here know how to get rid of this? Thanks in advance for any advice. Here is the photos of the grassy weed I took a picture of and uploaded to my site. Well, if ORTHO doesn't know, we sure won't! Actually... Ron might know I can tell you what I did for a section of the lawn that was totally covered in wild violets. I just dug up that section and replaced a couple of inches of soil and planted new grass there. Perhaps if you have a small section of that grassy weed, that would work for you. Other ideas that I have read about, but not tried--painting Round-up (kills everything) on the blades of grass, in the hopes that it will kill the grass down to the roots, but not the surrounding grass, if the grassy weed appears in patches throughout the yard, or spraying Round-up on sections that are covered with that grass and reseeding a month or so (read the label) later. Or maybe you have already tried Round-up and even THAT wouldn't kill it???

I Uploaded these two photos below. Hope they show up. The grassy weed whatever it is appears in patches. I have thought about round up but it takes 6 months before something will grow in that spot. Maybe that would be long enough to replant the spots in the spring. They sure are ugly devils whatever it is LOL. Thanks Dennis Attachments: ![]() ![]() |

Yeph that is it Ron. Guess I will just have to pull them out when the ground is wet. That is what I have been doing. Don't know how long my back will hold out on a old fart like me. Leaves quite a hole when I do this so I just get a clump of grass from the back of the yard and sod it into the hole. My wife told me to just put in astro turf LOL. Thanks for you help. Dennis |

We have that all over down here in Kentucky, I think it is called smooth crabgrass. Here is a picture of it. We just pull it up. You have a great day and happy gardening. Bill Mitchell Attachments: ![]() |
