Hi everyone,
Can anyone identify the following: Tall (about 18 in.), spiky uneven leaves, little blue flower with what looks like 2 yellow eyes and a yellow mouth (sort of an iris shape I think). I planted these from tiny bulbs, they sprouted like palm leaves and now have taken over most of my older shrubs and flowers. Spreading like crazy. Help!!
Thanks,
alinwo

Welcome to GG from WI, alinwo! Is there any way you could post a picture of this flower? I'm drawing a complete blank on the description, but maybe someone else will happen by that can help. Feel free to dig around--there's another forum down a bit called Mystery Plant, and yet another one (under Other Plants) called Plant Identification, maybe if you get pics, put 'em there--and thanks for joining us!

Thanks mbvirtue for trying. Will try to send picture when the rains stop, lol, and I figure out how to do that.

Sincerely,

Welcome! May I suggest that even if they aren't a "weed", if they are taking over your garden, feel free to pull as many as necessary so the other things won't get choked and/or to tidy the place up a bit. I also cannot figure out what they are from the description, but even if they are a pretty flower, if they are taking over, I say pull 'em. Leave a few, if you like them, though.

Spiderwort
Tradescantia virginiana

I love it and have it in a small wooded area in my yard. It can move around at will, but is a sweet plant. Linda B from SC

You are welcomed and Thanks Ron,yes, can be a beast but I took heed, that spider is in a pot sitting on sandstone*lol I love it and I don't want to end up ripping out her roots. So...Container, away from the soil she lives and we are both very happy this way.Isn't it just a eye catching flower though..interesting..!
