I would really like to have a couple of houseplants, especially if they have a use (medicinal, edible) or flower, but I don't have much sunlight in my house. Any suggestions as to what plants to buy? Thanks. |

Wow, that's a tough order - most of the flowering houseplants that come to mind require substantial light, whether direct or indirect. The edible or medicinal plants I can think of (herbs, aloe) are also light-lovers. There are plenty of respectable houseplants that do well in low light such as philodendron, palms. Maybe someone else will come along and have some good ideas for you. |

The plant guide says that it needs lots of sun. I usually need to turn on the lights in any room I'm in during the day in my house. That's how little light I get. |

I started an Amaryllis, and it's doing very well! Thanks for your help. |

While not medicinal in a traditional sense, Chinese Evergreen and Golden Pothos are two low light plants that are exceptionally good at converting carbon dioxide to oxygen. The Golden Pothos is also especially effective at removing formaldehyde. I have low light conditions in my home and both of these are doing great. |
