I saw a gorgeous plant called a plectrathus marked WAY down at the local garden center today...Beautiful glossy leaves and blue flowers, apparently in the mint family...I wondered if anyone has experience growing and overwintering these lovely plants in a colder region such as Ohio, Zone 5? |

I am not familiar with this plant but in searching I found that it is considered a tropical and probably will not withstand temps lower than 50 degrees. You could move it indoors in winter but I think a frost will definitely do it in. One site mentioned that it is akin to coleus which is another tender annual (at least in your zone ~ and mine ). Sorry this may not be the news you wanted to hear ~ I try to steer clear of plants that don't overwinter in my zone (6b) but that does not account for the large oleander in my front northeast bed

I have Plentranthus 'Mona Lavender'....dark purple undersides and spikes of lavender flowers. I just keep mine as houseplant in zone 6. In zones colder than zone 9b it can be placed outdoors and then brought back in for winter. Vera |
