Hi,

Im looking for opinions for this plan that I just made for the veg. garden we're planning for the spring.

The green areas are the beds, and their dimensions are labeled. The white area with the grid is the rows between the beds...each square is a square foot so you can get an idea of my spacing. North is to the right. There's going to be a ceder decorative fence around the perimeter.

Picture located here: http://www.dunin.org/garden/garden-design.jpg

Thanks,

Nick

Nick ~ I like your layout very much and cannot think of anything I would do differently. Now your only task is to decide what you want to plant in each location.

That looks great. On a quilting show yesterday they showed a quilt garden. This reminded me of that.

Looks like you have the opportunity to do several different types of beds, from perennial, herbs, veggies and even annuals. Just enjoy your time in the garden.

First, I wish I had a fraction of your space. Well, actually I do have a fraction: 1/10. lol

The only thing I might do differently would be to make the paths narrower, say three or even two feet wide, and make the beds 4 feet wide instead of 5, 6 1/2 or 10 feet wide. Why do I say this? Well, I can't think of anything you would need to take down a garden path that is 4 feet wide, so to me it seems like a bit of a waste of valuable arable space.

The reason I say 4 foot wide beds is that at that width you can pretty much reach the middle of the bed from either side. This means that you'll have to walk on it less often, and the whole bed is easily accessible for hoeing, spreading amendments, compost, fertilizers, etc., dusting and spraying if you do that sort of thing, and not to mention harvesting.

Just my 2 cents worth. :-)

Good luck with however you decide to do it.

This design sort of reminds me of a parlor garden. The parlor garden has large paths so you can walk side by side to enjoy the garden together.
