Wow... this is kind of an old post... but I thought I'd throw my 2 cents out there. I have just started a few- I'm TRYING to anyway- nothing has happened yet- I nicked em, soaked em and now have them in moist seed starting mix covered in plastic- it's been about a week and no sign of life yet. I couldn't find info on starting them anywhere so I thought I'd just take a stab at it.

Just an update folks- no sprouts yet, and I think, after further reading, I may have messed up by not refrigerating them first. So today the whole thing is going in the fridge for a while and we'll see what happens. I'll post an update when and if I ever get any seedlings !!

If anyone else has ever tried this I'd love to hear from you- this is just an experiment for me....

Hello,
I don't know if you'll get this but the seeds need to be stratified (chilled/cold) for a season. You can put them in the fridge (about 2 months) or you can plant them in the ground in the fall and let nature have its way, depending what zone you live in. Do you know if they are native irises or Louisiana irises? Both can grow in standing water. Let me know if this helps.
