Will this fern make it through the winter in a 7a area if planted in a shady area covered with mulch? My area is Alexandria, Virginia.
If not, can it be put in the garage or some other cold but insulated area that gets only a little light for the worst of the winter?

This is a great fern to overwinter in the warmer zones. I have a rod under the house that I hang mine on.( you can do this in the garage ) Take them out and water them on the warm sunny days in winter. I usually take them out once or twice a month. Just don't do what I did last year and forget to take them down before it freezes. When the temps warm in the spring you can pull them out ( you will be surprized how much green they still have ) give them a good haircut just cut away all the dead fronds. You can split them into two plants or just repot the one. I think they like under the house because its so moist under there. Good Luck!
