I'm not sure this should be under garden furniture, but it use to be garden furniture. We have an old concrete table and benches that are getting to old to use. I didn't want to throw it away but I was worried about using it because the benches have hair line fractures and some of the metal form is sticking out. So we stacked them on concrete blocks. I kept the bases and I am looking for some concrete pavers to lay on top of two of them to make a plant(table like) stand. The bases have a pretty flower pattern on the side. I thought it would look nice with a pretty container with trailing plants in them. The table is losing the concrete on the side and we plan to turn it into a large but shallow bird bath, hopefully setup to have gentle moving water in it. Tam Attachments: ![]() ![]() |

BTW, I didn't say what I was going to use it for, lol. I will be using the benches as plant shelves. I would like to put some potted mums on it for the fall, some potted flowering bulbs for sring and then potted herbs in the summer. |

That's a good idea! The curve is a nice feature for a shelf. Another idea would be to use concrete stain on them and add some color. |

Sweetlebee, you read my mind. I'm hoping to stain it to match up with our new pergola. I was so glad to finally figure out a way to recycle the set because we bought it at a yardsale just after we got married. Of course my guys,(hubby and son) couldn't figure out why I was being so "silly" about it. Afterall, it's just concrete.

ooooo how pretty, I can see it with little bright color glass tiles. It would add sparkle/color in the area. Or maybe blue color glass tiles, marble or rock to make it look like running water? I added a pic. of how sparkly stuff look pretty in gardens. At least they do to me. : ) Don't ask me how I would do it ... 'cause I wouldn't know. It's a great bench you can do much with it. Great idea Rashell. However, I also would not know how to do it! |

Guess who ever sells mosaic supplies can show us what to do? Also, the net has lots of Do-it-yourself instructions. Maybe, to make things easier for us we can just lay out the tiles without glue, grout, cement or whatever is used? Ok what's with the WE here? LOL...what one bench can do to a person? I'm acting like it's my bench.

LOL! I have come up with so many ideas for these benches that I have started a list. Right now they match my gravel so I'm using it as an excuse to be lazy. If you want to put the glass marbles on concrete or pottery, you can use clear silicone caulking for windows and doors, or for smaller projects, or if they are going into your outdoor pond use aquarium tank sealer. For tiles use tile adhesive to "glue" down the pieces of tile, leaving at least 1/4 of an inch between pieces for the grout, and let dry throughly. Apply a sanded grout, in any color, gooping it all over the tiles and make sure to get it in, and fill in all the cracks. The grout should be the consistency of a thick cake batter. As soon as it starts to dry, use a dampen sponge to clean the tiles off, and smoothing the grouted areas around the tiles to be level at the edge so you have no sharp corners peeking out from the grout lines. Let it dry and apply tile and grout sealer to your piece to help protect it from the weather. Word of caution: Mosaics can get addtictive! But it is very simple to do, just takes a while.EDIT: Yay! I just hit 100 posts! *and the crowd goes wild* LOL! |

Thanks for the info. Tam-Tam. I have the supplies glass, tiles, rocks (for years). I never started a project of my own! BUT, noticed how excited I get when someone else has to do the work? Sheesh.
