Ok ~ somebody kick me, I bought a Star Jasmine at Lowe's today. Yeah, that's what I get for having a yak-fest with the garden associate as I was leaving the store empty-handed. As we yakked, I spotted it peeking out among some other items on what they now like to call the "distressed plants" rack. (Nice name to give the unlucky recipients of neglect.)
So sue me ~ it was marked down from $10 to $2, but don't say I wasn't warned. She said it won't overwinter here, so do I chance it? Southside of house, protected area maybe? I had luck with the oleander, although it hasn't bloomed yet.
Go ahead, kick me again (a bit harder this time).

Thanks for your support, SB ~ but that's the million-dollar-question. The label was uninformative, to say the least. No zone listed, but it DID say hardy to 20F. That's a toss-up around here ~ we can and do get colder than that on a bad day, but it's not common. The south side of my house is very protected ~ full sun in winter and woods blocking most harsh winds.
One can only hope ............

Well, I live in Zone 5.. jasmine is not hardy here, so I put it in a pot and bring indodors for winter. I try to keep it in a well lit room and water sparinginly. This particular jasmine I have had for about 6 years now.

Now mind you by Feb or March it is looking pretty puny usually, but when the weather is past frost I set it out on my deck. I will be repotting it soon. It actually did better than my musa/banana over winter. I dont have the best lighting in my house.
