I have some Coneflowers growing, and I'm just wondering if I can harvest seeds from them. Are the seeds just those middle parts of the flower? Do I just wait until they dry up and then pull it apart? As you can probably tell, I really don't have any experience harvesting flower seeds, so if you have any experience with this, any experience that you can share with these seeds would be much appreciated. |

I do know that the birds like to pull the seed out and eat them. So I think what you see on top of the stalk are the seeds. What color are the coneflowers? Linda B from SC |

Thanks Linda B. They are the standard purple Echinacea Coneflowers. So, are the little prickly things on top of the ball the seeds? I pulled some out with tweezers. Is there a proper way to remove them? I guess I'll try planting what I pulled out next year, and see if anything comes of it.

I just grabbed some purple coneflower seeds from out at our church camp grounds. I just broke off the whole seed head. When it is broken in half all of the seeds just come right out. It reminds me of a marigold or a zinnia seed pod. |

Yep that is a good way to describe them. |
