Hello and next summer going to take an old bathtub and make it into a pond outside? We had a not sure what you would call it but its a pretty good size bathtub so going to take it out and was going to throw it away but I think it would make a good pond?I would like to get some locust seeds and was wondering what is the difference between hardy lotus and hardy water lily?do you put them in a pot with soil then add sand or rocks to keep them in the water or what?Thank you

I used pond soil, worth the extra pennies. Get some knee highs (this works for ALL pond plants) and put some of that soil in the toe. Stick your plant in, then work some of the soil around the edges, then a bit on top. Oh, roll the nylon down, haha, before you do all this! Leave it rolled down, like a lip to a pot, it will be snug after a bit, as the plant grows...but this is GOOD because it keeps the soil in! Benefits: The nylons will degrade, but not too quick, take them up and repot once a year, and that is all you need. They will expand so the maximum growth is permitted. Due to that, you will have so many, they will be gifted out (freecycle, friends, craigslist, anyone?) and perhaps some would *shudder as I have had to do it* so many you can't rid yourself of all of them. They make great *gulp* mulch too!

I saw a beautiful lotus plant at a nursery 3 years ago. The bloom was the size of a dinner plate and thought I would get it until I ask about the price. It was $55.00 and it was in late summer so I thought I would wait until the following spring and look at some smaller ones. When I went the following spring to get one they didn't have them and said they weren't going to carry them anymore because they weren't in demand. I haven't found a place that sell them around here anymore.
