Wow..good one. I have tried, I have over 100 of these buggers and yano what? I have tried everything to no avail (YET!) I tried the basic methods to fancy. Root hormone powder to smoke water. Nope. I gave up and what I did was take baby maples (regular ones) that I had 'rescued' (they would have been mowed) and I am going to wait until they are bigger *ie have some bark, and I will graft. That is the most common method. Many times people think they have bought a Japanese Maple, well, they are...down to the base and below that they are regular maples. One Japanese Maple can make many with grafting on Regular Maple root stock. So give me a year and I am going to do that because I can't have too many of them, hehe. I took a handful of babies (Japanese Maple - purebreds) to the NW GTG and still have so many, but want more! The funny thing is I have not tried to root in water, just regular water with a on barky section of new growth? Hmm... |
