my dahlias......... bright red and beautiful, these are bulbs and here in the north I have to dig them in the fall but they are worth it. I put as many as I can in a large planted and place them around the yard, if I don't like where they are then I can move them where I want them. Attachments: ![]() |

I have salvia, coneflower, rudbeckia, crocosmia, roses, and a beautiful Rozanne geranium going strong now, and they'll bloom into fall. I love toad lilies for their interesting foliage all summer and then the orchid-like blooms in fall. Mine take a lot of sun because I keep them moist. Japanese anemone too! |

Right now in my garden I have tall garden plox, Russian Sage, a few stray daylilies, althea, crape myrtle, dwarf joe pye, guara, and coneflowers. My fav Aug annual would have to be cosmos. Another plant I've fallen in love with was given to me by a friend. She called it Japanese Aster. It's white, and the flowers are like a larger fluffier baby's breath. It's been blooming since early summer and still going. I love this as an airy backdrop for shorter perennials like the daylilies. I've been spreading it all around, and it's prolific so I have lots to split. I had lots of cardinal flower growing wild all over. Haven't seen a sign of it this year. I think the drought got it.

the drought got several of my plants as well and we also had a very late freeze last spring that killed off many other things for me. My aster is trying to bloom event though it is trying to dry up.. poor thing. I have waered it, but with lack of rain and these high temps it is nearly impossible. We are in for a cool down of aobut 10 degrees this week.. maybe that will help.
