First thing, welcome to GG from WI, GardenLover100! Doesn't sound like there's much love goin' on between you and your lawn right now, tho... Up here we've now got rust fungus, which leaves yellow spots (orange actually), and turns our shoes and feet orange. Is it possible there's an animal getting into your yard? It may be urine spots from a dog... Without seeing a picture, it's kind of hard to tell what's going on. If you can get a picture posted, that'll help all of us to help you love your lawn again.
Thanks for stopping, hope to see ya soon!

There is really only one lawn patch product that works to get rid of yellow spots, K9 Yard Patch.

The other brands just “cover” urine spots. K9 Yard Patch www.k9yardpatch actually neutralized pet urine, conditions and fertilizes the soil organically and retains moisture to germinate the fast growing seed. Not to mention covering more SF and yellow spots than other named brands for ½ the cost. I would go the web site and try it www.k9yardpatch.com

The only other thing is to train your dog to not pee on the grass!

We used to have this great guy on a gardening show on the radio. I remember him telling about chinch bugs. Maybe this will help.

St. Augustine grass is commonly attacked by chinch bugs, which feed at the base of the grass stems. One way to check for their presence is to mix up a gallon of water to which four tablespoons of lemon-scented dishwashing detergent has been added. Pour the mixture onto a small area at the edge of the yellow grass. Lay an old white towel over the spot and wait fifteen minutes. Chinch bugs, if present, will climb out of the grass and attach themselves to the towel in order to escape the soap. Adult chinch bugs are black with shiny white wing covers and are approximately 1/8 of an inch long. Nymphs are bright orange-red and somewhat smaller.

If you discover chinch bugs apply any insecticide containing carbaryl, permethrin or bifenthrin.

Good advice Witt, I agree. I had never had chinch bugs in my lawn, however the test you told about would do the trick. I too have had yellow spots in my lawn which turned out to be grub worms. We treated them with Dursban or Diazinon. After I moved to a place where we flood irrigated. In this case we had no grub worms. Come to find out the little buggers are choosy and like just the right moisture at the root level. Flooding the lawn served to drown them
