Anyone ever started rose bushes from cuttings? I have never tried this, but my neighbor and I have the Knock Out roses and would love to try cuttings. |

A former coworker of mine used this system and said it worked. I tried it once, but I wasn't patient enough, since I heard it takes a long time. |

My grandmother used to start roses from cuttings all the time. Rose Magazine, www.rosemagazine.com has a section on propagating roses. It tells you where to take the cuttings and how to get them growing. As we live in Alberta we don't have a long season in the fall to get the roses growing so my grandma used to plant the rose cuttings (after being started in small pots) in a sheltered area of her yard I believe sometime in early October. She covered each cutting with a large glass jar, then covered all of them with a mulch of leaves. She left them alone through the winter & once the snow had gone in spring and frost danger was pretty much past she uncovered them & moved them into her flower beds where she wanted them planted. I hope this helps you out. |

I've only had luck rooting in the fall/winter.and with hard wood cuts.I didn't use rooting hormone on the last ones but did water with root starter with B1 added by MG. |

Have been doing some rose cuttings for a couple of months. Some root, others do not. My success rate is about 50%. I take the cuttings about 6 INches long and cut with knife to make slant at the bottom. Leave one set of leaves at top. Mix perlite and ground bark and put cuttings in. I place them under a table outside in the shade. I try to mist them 2 or 3 times a day. The humidity is so high here its almost like being in a greenhouse. In about 3 weeks they will root. Also use rotone on the very tip. Some roses are harder to root than others. New dawn has rooted very well for me. Bubble bath. Aloha. Sometimes the leaves will drop off the cutting but if I keep it moist it will root without leaves. Pretty long reply I know. Try this, it should work for you. |
