I just recently found this forum and a very nice one it is. I've been member and even manager of garden groups, but for whatever reason, they became rather dead. I've really missed lively garden chat.

I'm a Michigan transplant. I moved to TN in 2004 after retiring. I couldn't take the winters anymore, and always dreamed if I left MI, I would move to the mountains of TN. So here I am in my dream come true. I'm loving the gentler winters, and all the new things I can grow here.

I'm located at the base of the Appalachian Mts, and within the borders of the Cherokee National Forest. The Great Smoky Mt Park is about an hour west. I refer to it as Zone 6-7 as I'm not really sure just what it is. I seem to be able to push the limits of 7. My property is 1.5 acres surrounded by forest and a view of a mountain peak. Being right at the base and all the trees limits my view, but I love it just the same.

My thing is perennials. I've been perennial gardening for over 25 yrs. I'm a bit of a collector. If I don't have it, I want it. Daylilies and ornamental grasses are the back bone of my gardens. Most of my daylilies have made all the moves with me. This last move, I brought about 20 varieties (as well as many other perennials) down. I add new ones every year. My gardens are many, and ever-changing and expanding.

My other thing is raising and showing Netherland Dwarf rabbits. I've been doing that for 7 yrs. Raising rabbits also provides lots of good stuff for the gardens. I call it Bunny Power. Every gardener should have a rabbit or two.

And last but not least, I'm a nature-watcher. Birds, critters, butterflies, and other insects, and wildflowers.

I look forward to being a member of this forum, and hope to meet other southeastern gardeners.

Welcome, NC! We have several things in common ~ not to mention the fact that we're both UP early!
We relocated here to W. KY in 2004 from the frozen tundra (Wisconsin) and I call myself a Z6b. I also adore perennials and was thrilled to pieces by the longer gardening season afforded to me in the (almost) South. Perennials are my thing too and I am constantly amazed at the difference between my old zone and the new. In 2004, I too moved dozens of plants from our old homestead (figured the new owners wouldn't notice and I was right!). Everyone thought I was crazy taking plants along with me but I was attached. And I had great success moving them, so there.
Your area sounds awesome and I would like to visit east of here someday. So far, we haven't strayed from home much ~ after 14 round trips down here from WI, we are sick and tired of Hwy 57!
I love ornamental grasses (have around 6 kinds) and my friend down the road owns a daylily farm and she shares (sometimes). Our yard is mostly woods, but around 4 acres or so is my empty slate to work with. You can see "My Front Porch" in the Members Photos forum. I have gone ever so slightly mad.
Congratulations on your retirement and enjoy! You will find lots of great folks here who love to gab "plants".

Welcome to GG from WI, NC! OK enough initials ...I grew up in Wisconsin, lived in Ft.Lauderdale, Florida for 7 years, then moved back within 20 miles of where I grew up when our son was 2. Yup, the winters aren't much fun, unless you like snow--call me crazy, I love the white stuff. This weekend temps are going to be in the mid 90s, with high humidity. Just like being back in Florida for a few days.
This website rarely calms down. It seems there's always someone starting a blog, or having "critter issues," or some other drama. Bring on the questions, we're ready! So welcome to our little corner of the net, and thanks for stopping by.

Welcome, NC! It's nice to have you onboard with all your experience. I think most of us regular posters are a bit new to gardening. I know you'll enjoy it here!

Welcome NC, your place sounds lovely. I'm sure you will enjoy it here on GG. I too like to use the "Bunny Power". My Brother in law raises bunnies, he is more than willing to share their abundant offerings with us.

Welcome from California NC! Your home sounds so beautful, I visited the smokies in 2000 when I lived in Mississippi. I'd love to know more about your bunnies, we've somewhat talked about getting a bunny as a pet. Nice to meet you!

Welcome to GG NC! I transplanted to WY in 2004 from PA. I'm pretty much sticking to annuals because we live in an apartment, but we're looking for a house. I can't wait until I can have a shade garden and lots of perrenials.

Hi NC! Nice to have you here. I'm up on the Great Lake Erie in Ohio. The only bunnies around here are cottontails.
