Hello my nickname is Clouddancer my real name is Donna. I'm 51 years old and have been gardening since I was 4. I love every aspect of gardening. Two years ago I made a life change and got remarried to a good friend I met online and moved from Oregon zone 8 to Colorado zone 4. I live on the western slope of the Rockies west of Steamboat Springs out in the country on 35 acres. I've had to learn what grows here and what doesn't. On our land I'm currently trying to preserve our native wildflowers. A couple of months ago I got our place certified as a wildlife habitat and hope to one day teach our local school children about gardening and wildlife. In hopes it may one day inspire them. Gardening to me is a great stress reliever and great for the soul. When we give to nature, nature gives back to us. Attachments: ![]() |

Welcome to GG, clouddancer! Looking forward to pictures of your wildflowers, and we stand ready to answer your questions. Thanks for stoppin' by! PS And don't worry, there are no stupid questions. (I've tested that theory already...) |

Welcome Clouddancer, looks like you'll be able to offer us a lot. BTW your mountain silouette looks almost identical to our very own Massanutten Peak here in The Valley. Had to do a double take, and still not sure it isn't.

Hello Treeman, The mountain silouette you see in my picture is a small part of Cedar Mountain an old extinct volcano that's within a few minutes walking distance of my house. The picture was taken from my bedroom window during a thunderstorm at sunset. I do hope to inspire people to get out and garden and enjoy the beauty that's all around us. I hope people take time once outdoors to close their eyes and listen to all the different bird sounds around them. Birds add color to our landscape plus eat insects that would normally consume our plants. If I can be of any help to anyone I hope to do so. I think any one of us gardners has a lot to contribute more then they often think. I hope you have a great week and a very happy 4th. Clouddancer |

Thanks for the welcome MBVIRTURE. I'll upload some of our wildflowers I took pictures of a few weeks ago. I have no clue what the names of them are. I wanted to save some bright red indian paintbrush I found growing near the road but either a deer or antelope beat me to it because it vanished over night. On the lower part of our property one can find more indian paintbrush in a apricot color plus a lot of prickly pear cactus which now has yellow blooms. Hey thanks for getting all the stupid questions out of my way. In gardening I don't think there are stupid questions because if you don't ask how will your inquiring mind ever know. Have a great week and a very happy 4th. Clouddancer |

Thanks JanetsFamily for the welcome. I have quite a few lovely sunset pictures I'd love to share taken from my house. The one I posted was taken from my bedroom windown during a thunderstorm. Have a wonderful week and a very happy 4th. Clouddancer |

Thanks Bensmom98 for the welcome. Moving from Portland Oregon zone 8 to Craig Colorado zone 4 offered challanges. It's a different way of life here. I live 2 1/2 miles outside our small town 7000 feet above sea level. I use to live 80 feet above sea level. I can drive down our country roads and as you pass other people we wave at each other. I wouldn't say you would get a wave like that where I use to live. ![]() Our garden season is so much shorter then what I was use to for 47 years. Our first snow can come the last week in September and our last snowflake can be seen as late as June 7th. This past winter we were the coldest in the nation for a week at -34 F and the coldest spot in the state of Colorado for 2 weeks. When I moved from Oregon I brought with me many of my prized fuchsia's I loved to grow. Sorry to say most of them are now gone due to hot summer heat. It's been in the mid 90's for several weeks now. I guess I'm lucky it cools down to the mid 30's to lower 40's at night. I'm back to trial and error gardening. I look around town at other peoples gardens to see what grows well and what doesn't. We only have 1 garden nursery in town and they charge huge prices because it's all trucked in not locally grown. Example I found a lovely 10 inch fuchsia basket I was interested in till I saw the $45 price tag. Gosh I could buy the same size basket back in Oregon for as low as $12 from a fuchsia nursery. My other nursery options are driving 45 minutes to Steamboat Springs or 2 1/2 hours to Grand Junction. This spring I ordered a lot of plants online with good sucess so far. I was so use to growing whatever I wished in Oregon to growing different types of plants here in Colorado. So now you see my challanges. Life is beautiful if we take the time to look around. You have a wonderful week and a very happy 4th. Clouddancer |
